The highest water levels (biggest releases) traditionally occur in the early and latter portions of the rafting season. Spring releases are usually the biggest (due to melting of the 10-20 foot snow pack in the mountains). Fall dam releases are high too; in order to “draw-down" river reservoirs to prepare for the following Spring. The exception to this general rule is The Kennebec River. It has at least one “LARGE" release during the summer (for turbine tests on the dam). In some years, it has several big releases for this purpose. But no matter, these BIG summer releases equal REALLY GREAT FUN and should not be missed!

North Country River Inflatable Sport Kayak Trips

These kayaks (also called Funyaks or Sport Rafts) and are very stable, fun, and easy to master. No experience is required to paddle them. They’re great fun, and an excellent way to learn basic kayaking skills. We supply all equipment and instruction too. You have the option of paddling a one-person or two-person version. Our 2-person inflatable kayaks are great for families with small children.

We offer our Level 1 inflatable kayak trips June through August. These trips leave from our base in Bingham ME. These are a half-day trip on the calmer Class 2-3 section of the Kennebec River. These trips leave between 2:00pm-3:00pm depending on when the water level rises due to the release at Wyman Dam. The trips are 2-3 hours long, and we provide all gear and transportation – both to the put-in and back to our resort base in Bingham, Maine. It is very common to see Osprey, Loon and Eagles on this stretch of the Kennebec.

We have both one and two-person Sport Kayaks. We recommend a minimum age of 8 yrs old for your own kayak. With adult supervision, however, ages 5-8 should be able to ride tandem along with an adult.

Cost: $29.00 per kayak

Kayak Off-Property Rental

We also allow you to take our inflatable kayaks off the property. This is a great fun activity addition to any trip to Lake Wyman – located a few miles from our facility. Check with the Front Desk or Main Office for more information and availability. ADVANCED RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

We also offer ATV trail riding, Moose & wildlife watching Safaris, biking, hiking, fishing., and winter snowmobiling.
